Chrome CologneLoris Azzaro, born February 9, 1933 in Tunisia from Sicilian parents, was a very well known French Fashion designer.  By 1968 he was a huge success, over the course of his career he designed dresses for celebrities like Sophia Loren, Raquel Welch, Kate Winslet and Nicole Kidman.

In 1975 he created his first fragrance for women called “Couture”, in 1996 he released Chrome cologne for men which has become the top selling fragrance for men in the market.

Since the death of Loris Azzaro in 2003 the company continues the clothing line but is more known now for their fragrance line.  Original Loris Azzaro vintage pieces are still in demand.

McGraw CologneTim McGraw launched his first cologne, McGraw, in 2008 by Coty.  The fragrance opens with the scent of freshly grated nutmeg, the heart note, moss, which is appropriately used in the production of whiskey gives this fragrance it’s earthy natural essence.  The base note has just a hint of Tennesse whiskey which gives McGraw it’s warm, slightly woody quality.

Since August 2008, Tim McGraw has made nearly $6 million in sales, making it the 6th best selling men’s cologne in the mass market category, not to bad for a cologne created by a country singer in just a little over a year.

His latest cologne, Southern Blend is now available and I might add either one would make someone a great Christmas gift.

Hanae MoriWhen buying women’s perfumes or men’s cologne how many times have you wondered “just what are notes anyway?”  Well it is obviouse we are not talking about music.  Notes are used to describe the various scents of a perfume or cologne.  Let me explain what I mean.

Top notes is the first scent you smell and generally last maybe 30 minutes because they evaporate rather quickly.  Top notes are very important in making a first impression.  Middle notes, may be also referred to as heart notes, thes are not as strong or dramatic as top notes and also don’t appear until about 45 minutes after application.  Base notes is the grand finale of every good cologne or perfume.  The base notes are the ingrediants that hold everything together.  Musk is a common ingredient in base notes.

Cool WaterAs I was talking to my husband last week, he made a comment that surprised me.  He told me that many of his friends would not spend money on things such as cologne.  That is something they leave up to their wifes.

I asked my husband how he felt, he told me there is nothing like the smell of a fine cologne such as his favorite, Cool Water, to make a man feel better about himself .  It is also important for a man to feel confident and not let today’s economy stop them from smelling good and feeling good about themselves.

One Scent Fits All?

October 13, 2009

mene28099s-designer-cologneSo you’ve secured a big date for Friday night; as the work week passes, you begin to feel nervous. Even after picking out your nicest clothes, ironing them and laying them out well in advance, you can’t help but feel there’s something missing. A friend recommends you try his cologne as it “never fails to impress the ladies.” Hang on a minute: One scent does not fit all.

In fact, a men’s designer cologne might smell very different on you compared to the way it smells on someone else. Each body will have a unique reaction to the cologne, and that’s without even factoring in natural body heat. Apply the scent to your pulse points to get a general idea for its intensity. Ask a friend or roommate if the smell is overpowering; if so, dial it down with a more subtle scent.
