English Laundry announces their new men’s cologne, Arrogant, and their new women’s perfume, English Rose.  Arrogant is a rich cedar fragrance composed of lavender and coriander.  English Rose is delicate and perfect for the ultra feminine with notes of fresh kiwi, red lychee and golden quince complimented by white chocolate and jasmine pedals.

Arrogant cologne retails for $84.00 while English Rose retails for $88.00.  The price for fine perfumes and colognes, as a whole, I think, can be rather expensive, depending on the name.  This was how I felt until I found perfumes such as Clive Christian at $215,000.00 a bottle, due to the price only 5 bottles a year are made available to the public, good luck obtaining a bottle of that.  How about Hermes Perfume 24 Faubourg at $1500.00 an oz. only 1000 bottles of this fragrance are sold worldwide.

Needless to say I don’t so much complain about an $88.00 bottle of women’s perfume anymore.  It obviously could be a lot worse, and how do you really put a price on smelling fabulous.

OK, I would like to know what it is that makes Demeter fragrances so popular, and the price is a little steep, just my own personal opinion.  I have read some of the reviews and I have to admit that I don’t much care for going in public smelling like dirt.  However, some women love these fragrances, I just don’t get it.

If I’m going out, lets just say, on a blind date, my date asks me what kind of women’s perfume I’m wearing?  Do I really want to say play-doh, laundromat or even grass.  No, I would much prefer my response to be similar to Chanel No5 or Gendarme 20.

I’m rather sure that I’m not the only one that feels this way, and that some women, apparently want to smell like dirt, but when I get out of the shower, dressed, apply my makeup and then my perfume I want to be proud of what I smell like.  If I’m wrong, someone, anyone, please correct me.

I had always known that the fragrance Gendarme was popular, but what I didn’t know was just how popular.  According to Jonathan Risco, president of Gendarme fragrances, this men’s cologne has been the number one selling fragrance in Barney’s New York for the last 18 years, that’s just one store.

So I decided to do a little digging to find out just how this one scent has captivated so many people, like celebrities, such as Tom Cruise, Dustin Hoffman, L L Cool J and Bill Clinton, also female celebrities like Janet Jackson, Sharon Stone and Brooke Shields, just to name a few.

Back in 1983, Topper Schroeder, the creator of Gendarme was looking for a fragrance that he could wear with pride, that did not irritate the skin or cause asthmatic reactions.  After searching department stores everywhere with no success, Topper decided that he would create his own fragrance for his own personal use, after wearing it everywhere, it basically, by accident, became a very respected, popular and very much loved men’s cologne.

Risco exclaims “over the years Gendarme has changed the way people think about fragrance.  It’s the fragrance you want to wear if you want to be kissed.  You know the worst thing that’s ever been said about the fragrance?  It’s that is smells clean.”  I have not personally had the privilege of smelling this fragrance, however, it is definitely on my to do asap list.

Mary J. Blige, the hip-hop soul singer that dropped out of high school in the 11th grade, has more then made up for dropping out.  In the last 20 years she has recorded eight multi platinum albums, won nine grammys, appeared on television and in film.  At this weekends Essence Music Festival, Mary J. will unveil her new women’s perfume “My Life”, and , yes, she has also received her high school diploma.

Mary J. Blige is now preparing to launch Melodies, which is a new eye wear line by, who other then, Mary J. Blige.  She is also learning french for a film she is starring in about the jazz singer Nina Simone.

Mary J. Blige’s “My Life” will go on sale July 31st on the HSN television shopping network.  Her new fragrance is floral with notes of gardenia, Bartlett pear and white freesia, finished with undertones of wood, praline, sesame and incense.  A bottle of this perfume will go for $46, and from every sale, one dollar will go to her foundations work, aiding disadvantaged women.

Mary says that she was 100% involved in the making of this perfume and that it’s soft and edgy, strong, smart and sexy, everything that she imagines herself to be.  I’m rather excited to experience this new fragrance, if only to satisfy my own curiosity, that it is all that Mary claims it is.

According to the examiner.com Lansing, Mariah Carey had plans to play a role in Tyler Perry’s next movie, she has however, cancelled those plans to start promoting her new women’s perfume throughout the metro area.  On July 10th, her latest fragrances, Ribbon, Mine Again and Honey will hit stores like J C Penney, Macy’s and Dilliard’s.

When Mariah Carey and her husband Nick Cannon appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” Nick told how he proposed to Mariah with a ring pop, the gem shaped lollipop on a ring.  When the executives at Elizabeth Arden heard this they began to develop a proposal of their own.

Mariah Carey’s Lollipop Bling, which are the three fragrances created by Elizabeth Arden, are all based on candy flavors.  With each purchase of any one of the three fragrances, the consumer will receive a free ring pop.  I do believe that this will attract the younger generation that has a little more expensive taste.  Surely that was exactly what they are targeting with a one once bottle retailing at $35.00
