Move over Old Spice, it’s time to make room for other products. For years men wore deodorant, aftershave and cologne, well times are changing and so are our men.
During the 2010 Super Bowl, Unilever, the makers of Dove, premiered it’s Dove Men + Care product line. Unilever is focusing on creating comfortable skin for men which includes body wash and a body bar. Axe, also manufactured by Unilever, promotes body wash, deodorant, body spray and hair products.
Gillette, a Proctor & Gamble brand has offered shaving products for years but is now increased their line to also include hair care and body wash. Burts Bees which is owned by Clorox also has a line for men that include all natural men’s cologne, soaps, shaving products and moisturizers.
However, don’t count Old Spice out of the picture because they have also jumped at the opportunity, to include body washes as well as their original product line.
I can’t say that I’m really surprised at the recent rumors surrounding Jennifer Aniston, and no I’m not talking about a new boyfriend. The former face of L’Oreal shampoo and the star of the sitcom Friends, as Rachel, is rumored to be launching her own signature women’s perfume.
With fragrances by such names as Sara Jessica Parker, Beyonce, Paris Hilton and Faith Hill we had to expect it eventually. She is expected to reveal her partnership with Falic Group, which is producing Eva Longoria Parker’s first signature scent.
Right now it is all just rumored but I think we all know it is only a matter of time before we’re going to go shopping for Jennifer’s first launched women’s perfume. Hopefully sooner then later, I do wait with much anticipation.
We all pretty much knew about the new women’s perfume by Byonce, and I for one was anxiously awaiting the debut. So the debut for the fragrance Heat was last month, and has already made a very impressive $3 million worth of revenue. It would appear I wasn’t the only one waiting for this particular women’s perfume. According to Women’s Wear Daily, Macy’s alone sold 72,000 bottles in one day.
A little back ground on where Beyonce came up with the name and design is rather interesting. According to Beyonce, heat is the theme often portrayed in her live shows and that is where the name came from. The color red is one of her favorite colors, along with gold, so she decided to make the bottle appear to be on fire, and her love of antique bottles is how she came up with the design.
Regardless of how she came up with the color, the name or the design she definitely has a hit with “Heat”.
How many times have you been around certain men and almost fell in love with them because of their cologne? To me, there is nothing better then a great smelling cologne. My husband only wears Drakkar, which I do love, but there are so many other men’s cologne that I wish he would at least try.
I have spoke to several of my friends and family members and have come up with a few of our favorite, best smelling men’s cologne. Acqua Di Gio by Georgio Armani, Chrome by Azarro, Cool Water by Davidoff and Hugo by Hugo Boss. I have to admit that these are my favorites, in that order. Maybe someday I will be able to talk my husband into at least trying one of them.
Have you ever tried picking out a new cologne for your husband or boy friend? Wow, there is such a large variety and the prices, you can’t count on the price being a cologne that he will love or even like, price means very little in your final decision. I know this because I bought my husband a new cologne that he hated. So I have opted to have a trusted friend go with me when I shop for his cologne.
When you first go in the department store head straight for the men’s cologne, spray lightly on your friend, or in my case, my daughter, then go shopping for 30-40 minutes. This will give the top notes, the scent perceived upon application, to evaporate and this will happen rather quickly. Then there is the scent of the cologne which is called the middle notes that when combined with the base notes, which appear as the middle notes evaporate, form the main theme of the cologne. This process takes about 30 minutes and hopefully after shopping for 1/2 hour you will decide that you like the scent and don’t have to start all over again, as in my case. Needless to say we planned a whole day of shopping which was a very good thing.
Dree Hemingway, a model and the great granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway, has been in collaboration with Paco Rabanne, a Paris based fashion house. Details are rather scarce for now, however, Paco Rabanne’s press office says that Dree will star in an ad for an upcoming new women’s perfume. She won’t be the official face of the perfume, they have yet to name one.
There is a great anticipation for this new perfume since Rabanne’s 1 Million continues to top men’s cologne top seller list since it’s release in 2008. Look for more details in May and the release of this highly anticipated women’s fragrance in July.
In these hard economic times I believe anything that we, as women, can do to save a little money is well worth the effort. After doing some research I have found some very useful tips on how to preserve your women’s perfume so you may not have to throw it out, like I have done before, and end up buying more because of the loss in it’s potency.
The fragrance compounds in perfumes will degrade and breakdown if they are not stored properly. Store your fragrances away from heat and where they will not be exposed to light, 37-45 degrees Fahrenheit is best, possibly in a refrigerated area. When not in use the should also be kept in their original packaging. Since it is difficult to completely remove oxygen from the head space, opting for spray dispensers is always best to minimize oxygen exposure. Sprays also isolate the fragrance inside the bottle, therefore, preventing it from mixing with dust and skin which will degrade and alter the quality of the perfume.
Three things your women’s perfumes should not come in contact with, or at least at a bare minimum is light, heat and oxygen. If you follow these simple steps an opened bottle will keep its aroma intact for several years.
The British retailer Debenhams revealed in a press release that the average British women’s cosmetic bag is out of date by a worrying 4 years. This is rather concerning because beauty essentials such as, women’s perfume, foundation, blush, mascara, lipstick, eye shadow and liner, and concealer all have a “period after opening” indicator with the number of months of safe use. Make up, perfume and skin care products carry a risk of irritation and infection. Women’s perfume and men’s cologne, when kept to long will lose it’s scent strength.
Your eyes are the one area on your face that you should be very careful with, eye infections can be very painful and long lasting. So to protect yourself, wash your cosmetic brushes and sponges weekly, sponges are perfect for carrying bacteria when kept to long and not washed. Replace make up and such regularly, before expiration date and never share your make up, especially eye shadow, liner and mascara, due to cross contamination and always wash your make up off before going to bed. It is always better to be safe then sorry.
