No matter how much you love someone, or what kind of a role they played in your life, losing them to cancer is always hard. Regardless of how that person dies it is always tough on everyone concerned. Such is my life now, even though this particular person was not a daily figure in our family there is still a void.
After you get over the initial loss, you then have to figure out what you are going to wear to the funeral, that, if your are like me, you don’t want to attend anyway because I hate funerals. So what do you wear, blue, black or is green (dark) acceptable? Nothing to flashy, and what about the makeup? My biggest question was what kind of perfume do I wear? Is something with a strong scent going to do? Or do I go with my favorite, which is Red Door perfume? I have to admit that every funeral I have gone to, the same question arises, what scent do I want to wear so as not to offend anyone.
When you decide to buy a new perfume, how do you decide what you want? This is a question I’ve asked myself many times with no good answer, so I stick with the same women’s perfume I’ve worn for many years.
Thank God for family and good friends. When I approached them with the same question I got some really helpful answers. First, how a bottle is packaged is most surely a reason why I buy a certain perfume. I want it to look elegant and not plain or macho, so to speak. Second, how much do I want to spend. A high quality perfume is normally associated with a higher price tag. And finally, whatever perfume you may choose, you want it to last all day, so sample it before you buy it. Spray a little on your wrist, go walk around the store for 20 minutes or so, if it is not to strong or to subtle, it may be what you are looking for.
You can not possibly go wrong if you are completely honest with yourself about what you are looking for. Last, have fun with it and you will find it is not such a hard decision to make.
Elizabeth Arden was actually named Florence Nightingale Graham. She was the fourth child of five born to a Scottish grocer. As a young women and an experimenter, she believed that from common substances such as herbs, medicines and salves she could create beauty aids, and she did just that with the help of a friend who was chemist.
By the 1930’s it was said that there were only three names known globally, Singer Sewing Machines, Coco Cola and Elizabeth Arden. She created and launched her first fragrance in 1935 which she called Blue Grass Perfume. At the time of her death in 1966 her company was grossing an estimated $60 million dollars a year. Elizabeth was the owner of over 100 salons in America and Europe and also created and manufactured over 300 cosmetics and fragrances. Just a few of her products are Green Tea perfume, Splendor perfume, True Love perfume and my all time favorite Red Door perfume. Her products are truly worth the time and money you would spend.
Did you know that the original Toys for Tots program was founded in 1947 by Col. Bill Hendricks, he came up with the idea for Marine Reservists to collect and repair used toys and hand them out to needy children?
Today Toys for Tots only accept new unwrapped toys or gifts, I say gifts because older kids and teens up to age 18 participate. Some good ideas to donate would be, stuffed animals, age appropriate games, age appropriate books, cosmetic items, perfumes and colognes. Teen girls like Baby Phat perfume and teen boys like Cool Water just to name a couple ideas.
To find a dropoff location or to become a dropoff location visit the national website at www.toysfortots.org. I know that you would feel better donating and the children will have a Merry Christmas.
Because we are more health conscience and environmentally aware, there is a great interest in mineral makeup. The most exciting part of mineral makeup is that it does not contain the harsh preservatives or fillers that makeup industries generally use. Minerals also serve as a natural sunscreen against the sun’s harsh UV rays, it is highly water resistant and is incredibly long lasting, for example, Clinique makeup, just to name one of many, is perfect for combination skin and mineral makeup promotes balanced texture and skin tone.
The pros on mineral makeup keep growing, it is cost effective because you use less to achieve the same results as you would with conventional makeup. Minerals are also highly recommended by dermatologists to treat rosacea and women with sensitive skin, also for post operative and laser procedures because it soothes the skin and is also an anti inflammatory.
If you haven’t tried mineral makeup you should , and then you’ll be among the many women who are thrilled with mineral makeup.
When buying women’s perfumes or men’s cologne how many times have you wondered “just what are notes anyway?” Well it is obviouse we are not talking about music. Notes are used to describe the various scents of a perfume or cologne. Let me explain what I mean.
Top notes is the first scent you smell and generally last maybe 30 minutes because they evaporate rather quickly. Top notes are very important in making a first impression. Middle notes, may be also referred to as heart notes, thes are not as strong or dramatic as top notes and also don’t appear until about 45 minutes after application. Base notes is the grand finale of every good cologne or perfume. The base notes are the ingrediants that hold everything together. Musk is a common ingredient in base notes.
Most Americans learn about the exploits of Christopher Columbus in grade school – he stubbornly insisted that the world was round and that he could find a clear path to the Indies by sailing West from Europe. Still, it seems almost inconceivable that people would spend so much money and expend so much effort in an attempt to secure spices. The spice trade remains crucial in today’s society, but we take it largely for granted.
During the Age of Discovery, which began shortly after the Renaissance and continued through the 17th century, silks, spices and perfumes fetched vast amounts of money in the Western market. That’s because so few of the garments, food preservatives and women’s designer perfume that were in high demand could be found locally – either in Europe or the new world. Those items were mostly found in the Orient, and so traders and explorers like Marco Polo traveled east and brought back fantastical tales along with the valuable wares.
When looking for the perfect Christmas gift for someone special I used to find it a bit overwhelming and even difficult. However, I have found that aromatherapy products can certainly be that perfect gift you may be looking for.
You can find such a wide variety, from aromatherapy candles to essential oils, burners, along with bath and spa treatments. It doesn’t matter what the occasion, Christmas, birthday or showers, aromatherapy gifts are great to give and to receive.
All women enjoy pampering themselves once in awhile, but not all women take the time or spend the money on themselves, that is where you come in. All you need to do is think about what kind of person she is, what kind of life does she lead and would she benefit from a reduction in stress or how about an increase in energy? You can find whatever kind of aromatherapy she needs, include a message as a personal touch. You can make all the differance in someone’s day by just selecting aromatherapy gifts.
Science says that scents triggers memory. So there is much more to wearing cologne then just smelling nice. If you think about it, it is almost like wearing a scrapbook around your neck triggering memories of what you have been through, certain people that you may know or met at some point, or just reminding you of how you feel about life in general.
How true this is because whenever I smell Polo Cologne for men I am reminded of an old boy friend from high school. I guess that goes to show not all memories triggered by a certain scent is such a great thing since I am now married. I must admit that no matter how much I like the smell of polo cologne I do prefer that my husband does not wear it.
When it comes time for you to shop for perfume’s or cologne’s choose it because you like it and it also smells like you.
It would seem that the recession has unfortunately forced most of us to cut back on alot of things such as clothes, dining out and even the holidays. Yet it seems women have no intention of giving up their make-up.
According to a trend, know as the lipstick factor, figures show that the few things weathering this recession is perfume, eyeshadow and especially lipstick.
Women figure if they can only afford limited luxury then a tube of lipstick is inexpensive by comparision. Women are not however, saving pennies to buy the cheap brands. Research suggest’s that they are treating themselves to top quality brands such as Helena Rubinstein, Clinique makeup and Estee Lauder, just to name a few.
During the Great Depression of the 1930’s experts say that rising unemployment and tough competition for jobs made women want to look their best. Generally speaking, cosmetics have seen a year on year increase in sales during the downtime.
