Helena Rubinstein and her mark in the United States
I can remember as a child watching my mom put on Helena Rubinstein makeup and I always admired how pretty she was. Now as an adult I’ve wondered why Helena Rubinstein? So I did some checking and found her life to be very interesting.
Helena was born in 1870 Cracow, Poland and in 1888 she moved to Melbourne, within 2 years her reputation was secure. In 1915 her family moved to the United States where American women were reluctant to accept facial make up. However, after little more then a year 1 salon wouldn’t do so she opened 7 more, 2 of which were in Canada.
In 1964 she was burglarized, tied to a chair and threatened, and still refused to tell them where the key to her safe was and the robbers left empty handed. Princess Gourielli – Madame Helena Rubinstein died of natural causes in a New York hospital on April1, 1965 at the age of 94.
